Aramaic M-South of E. Mediterranean

Today you will know that the living God is among you. He will surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites. Think of it! The Ark of the Covenant, which belongs to the Lord of the whole earth, will lead you across the Jordan River! -Joshua 3:10 -11 (NLT)

The Aramaic M-South people of centuries past were blessed to own an early translation of the Bible — more than 1,500 years ago. Yet in the long passage of time, their language has changed drastically, and that translation no longer speaks to people’s hearts. The people have already tasted Scriptures, with their recently translated New Testament. Now they “beg” for the Old Testament! The project goal is for the Old Testament and audio recordings. A faithful remnant of about 35 percent of the people claim to be Christian. The remaining 65 percent practice another major religion. The Christians of the area face severe persecution. One local translator and two translation consultants know the language well and will translate the Old Testament, which is scheduled to be completed in 2017.

  • Pray for the new project manager. He is a supported missionary and needs to raise more support. Pray for his support raising and that he can learn what he needs to know to pick up his new responsibilities.

  • Pray for the rest of the team and their families that they will have good health and continued enthusiasm.

  • Ask the Lord to continue to bless this people group who are so anxious to have all of God’s Word in a language they can really understand.
