Their 20 years’ hard work is nearing the finish as final corrections are made before sending to the printer!

So we praise God for the wonderful kindness he has poured out on us because we belong to his dearly beloved Son. (Ephesians 1:6-7, NLT)

The Abakaliki speakers of 3 languages in Nigeria live in one of the most linguistically diverse nations on Earth — and they’re about to receive the entire Bible for the first time.

In 1980, the Izii, Ezaa and Ikwo people received their New Testaments. Then they promptly set to work on the Old Testament. Local churches were not about to settle for less. But 20 years of hard work, delays and setbacks will soon fade into history, as translators make final corrections and send three complete Bibles to the printers.

  • IZII: Jonathan traveled to a nearby city three times in the last few months to work on Scripture translation skills. He scheduled a fourth trip to work with Heidi on the Izii typesetting. Each time he comes back, he works hard to catch up with entering the reviewers’ revisions into the text. Praise God for Jonathan’s diligence and enthusiasm to get the work completed! Ask God to give him strength to keep up the pace as they race toward the finish line.
  • IKWO: Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel are revised. Now the translator is entering the reviewers’ notes and the Old Testament consultant’s remarks. She’s also busy with the word list and glossary and checking spelling and general consistency. Thank God for the progress being made to bring God’s Word to the Ikwo speakers.
  • EZAA: 1 and 2 Thessalonians, as well as 1 and 2 Timothy are reviewed, and the translator is entering the reviewers’ notes and consultant’s remarks. She’s checking the word list, spelling and consistency. Ask God to give the teams patience and focus as they give careful attention to detail. Give thanks for the teams’ desire for the translation to be accurate and true as well as easy to read and understand.
