The Suryoyo people take pride in their long Christian history. They have a Bible, called the Peshitta, that dates back thousands of years. Although they revere the Word of God, the language of the Peshitta is no longer understandable. Christians appreciate what the Scripture is – the Word of God – but have minimal comprehension of what it says or how it affects their daily lives.
Clergy members are eager for the completion of the Old Testament in their language. They’ve already welcomed and begun to implement the recently completed New Testament into their religious life. Christians look forward to seeing their culture reclaimed for Christ.
The JESUS film opened the door for evangelism and discipleship. Some of this people are devotees of another major religion. Both Christians and non-believers are hungry to know more about this Jesus in the film.
Computer-assisted adaptation from the Aramaic M-North Old Testament, also in progress, will allow this work to progress quickly. The translators for this project are working simultaneously on the Aramaic M-North Old Testament.

Suryoyo of East Mediterranean
The half million Suryoyo speakers take pride in their long Christian history. They have a Bible called the Peshitta that dates back thousands of years. But although they revere the Word of God, the language of the Peshitta is no longer understandable. Praise God that in 2009, they received the New Testament in their modern mother tongue. Many of them have seen the “JESUS” film, also recently published.Now the translation team is working to complete the Old Testament by 2017, after starting in 2009.
