Although a majority of the Alamblak and the Ap Ma Sepik people groups are Christians, their churches are handicapped. They have only half of the Bible—the New Testament. So pastors have requested help to get the Old Testament into their languages. As the project begins, new translators are gaining experience, through working on a panorama of Old Testament stories.
Because a large percentage of Sepik’s adults are non-readers, and their cultures are based on oral tradition, these stories will allow them access to the Old Testament much earlier than waiting for a full, published book. This project is testing a translation method that might be helpful for outreach to 200 other languages in the Sepik region.
