Project Profile

San Pedro NT | San Pedro

SanPedro_pic1.jpg

The San Pedro people live in small towns between the mountains and coastlands of Central Mexico. Most of the people are fishermen or farmers. Though Catholicism is widespread, it is often mixed with spirit worship and shamanism. Many people in the countryside cannot sufficiently understand Spanish and need the Scriptures in their own language.

Benito, a mother tongue translator, has taken initiative to translate the New Testament into the San Pedro language. Using a computer adaptation program, Benito is able to create a rough draft of the San Pedro Scriptures from a Bible translation in a related language. He then makes numerous checks and community tests to ensure that the translation is accurate. Through this project, the San Pedro people will be able to understand the great power and love of God and address the animistic practices in their culture.
