Project Profile

Rigo IG Cluster

Languages participating in this cluster:

  • Sinaugoro
  • Kalo
  • Taboro
  • Boku

The Rigo project includes four related language groups: Sinaugoro, Taboro, Boku and Kalo. The villages lie along the southeastern coast of Papua New Guinea near the capital city of Port Moresby. Most people earn their living by fishing, selling dried coconut (copra), tending fruit trees or cultivating gardens of taro, yams and pumpkin. They build simple homes of local materials like bamboo and palm leaf thatch.

Christian missionaries found the Rigo area in the 1880s. Today more than 90% of the population consider themselves Christians. Yet, people fear spirits and assume witchcraft is responsible for unexplained deaths.

This Rigo Cluster is incorporating projects that had been a part of the Central Province Cluster and including others to provide organization and accountability as well as allowing for more efficient use of consultants’ time and other resources.
