Quechua OT Cluster

Languages participating in this cluster:
High in the Peruvian Andes, speakers of related languages are working to translate the Old Testament for people who each speak one of these languages. This project is using CARLA (Computer Assisted Related Language Adaptation) computer software to adapt the completed draft of the Old Testament in one language into rough drafts for the others, helping local translators complete six Old Testaments. Funding will provide a stipend for the national translators plus travel, food and lodging to participate in workshops. It will also cover computer equipment and software for the adaptation work and free qualified translation consultants to help other translation projects around the world.

Quechua of Peru
In the central highlands of the Peruvian Andes, more than 970,000 people each speak one of six Quechua languages. Though each group speaks a different variety of the Quechua language, their lifestyles are very similar. Various teams, composed of both national and expatriate translators, have previously translated or are currently translating the NT into all six of these languages. Teams have already printed and distributed several New Testaments, and the remaining versions are nearing completion. - Nov28
