In a nation within Southeast Asia, a dire gap exists between people who prefer to learn by reading and people who cannot read or simply prefer to learn by oral methods. Today, about 700 people groups remain steeped in oral traditions. Before literacy efforts ever can begin, millions die without ever hearing the truth of the Scriptures in the language of their heart.
The Seed Company and several like-minded organizations operating within this nation have formed a strategy to reach these oral learners by implementing a sweeping OneStory program. During the initial phase, which lasts one year, national trainees from each major region are selected to begin crafting 24 oral Bible stories in the national language. These stories will reach their respective communities with the gospel. Plans are to merge regional projects into a comprehensive phase lasting several years. Sustainability will happen when these initial trainees return to their regions and train others to craft oral Bible stories in neighboring languages. One goal is to train 3000 storytellers in three years.

Bible translation is on the hearts and minds of many local Christian leaders within this region. Yet they seriously question how much time they have. Millions of people—as many as 20 million—prefer to learn by oral traditions, not the written word.
