While a local evangelist told a Bible story to a group of men recently, people looked for the book from which he was reading. They scanned the area for notes that would help him recount the details. Finding nothing, they vocally expressed their surprise and respect. “Even the main religion’s leader doesn’t tell stories from memory. You know more about these things than he does!”

The Guera people groups of Chad once lived in the mountains. But now their small villages are clustered in a semi-arid region, about a day’s drive from the capital city N’Djamena. In three of these people groups, a significant number have attended school. And since all of them use stories to teach cultural values and history, this project rides on a sound cultural infrastructure. It’s exciting to learn that more mother-tongue evangelists are learning to tell Bible stories.

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. (Isaiah 55:10-12, NLT)
