Girondo NT

India 2

The Girondo people have been isolated both physically and spiritually for many years. Their physical isolation has preserved their distinctive culture and traditions and their hostility to outside influence has preserved a religion that is a combination of the national religion and their own ancient practices that recognizes a supreme deity.

Because the people are antagonistic toward missionary work and there are no known believers, the first contacts with the Girondo people were made through a medical ministry that began in 1994. In 1997 Indian believers did a survey of the Girondo language and culture. One member of this survey team has felt called to translate the Bible into Girondo with the support of a doctor and his wife who are currently doing literacy work.
