Foothills NT

Foothills

The Foothills people live in the mountains of Northern Colombia on farms in houses with mud walls and thatch roofs. Some of them raise animals and take their products to market. They are basically subsistence farmers who survive off of their land.

The main goal is to translate and publish the New Testament along with some Old Testament portions. José, a young new Christian, has felt God's call on his life to translate the Scriptures for his people.

Translation consultants will mentor José and provide him with training opportunities. Other Foothills speakers will be sought out and trained to help with translation comprehension testing. A linguistics consultant is investigating the possibility of doing an adaptation from a related language, which would greatly speed up the process.

The Foothills people have been closed to the gospel in the past. There is a Colombian missionary that has been working there for a while. Now, there are around 150 Foothills Christians. The Foothills speakers are proud of their own language and culture. New believers need God's word in the language that speaks to their heart.
