Ethiopia OT Cluster

Languages participating in this cluster:

  • Gamo
  • Gofa
  • Dawro

The Gamo, Gofa and Dawro people are three groups united by their desire for the Bible in their related languages. God is using a unique partnership between The Seed Company and Word for the World. This builds on the recently completed project that provided the New Testament and the JESUS film, for more than one million speakers of these three languages.

The churches are committed to seeing the entire Bible translated, so it can be useful to preach and teach God’s Word to the people. The Old Testament will provide the foundation needed for them to understand New Testament concepts and teachings. This project also includes training two Ethiopian Bible translation consultants.

    Bringing the Full Scriptures

    The Ethiopia New Testament project has been a blessing to the Gamo, Gofa and Dawro peoples. Drawing on the strength of these communities of passionate and wise followers of Christ, the project has been able to bring both the New Testament and the JESUS film to the community. Now the community is ready for the next step as part of the Ethiopia Old Testament Cluster.

    Ethiopia OT Cluster

    Let’s continue praying for the Gamo, Gofa and Dawro (see also yesterday’s post on Jan. 20). The three New Testament translations are nearly complete. Praise God! Yet the local churches are committed to seeing the entire Bible translated. The Old Testament will provide the foundation for better understanding the New Testament. Translators are now drafting the Old Testament and plan to finish by 2013.

    • Praise God for local churches eager to work non-stop for complete Bibles.
