Project Profile

Bekwarra OT | Bekwarra

The Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Assemblies of God and other Protestant groups have a long history in the Bekwarra community. However, many church-goers still practice African traditional religion, which reveres ancestors and offers sacrifices to spirits. Many people here are nominal Christians, because they don’t understand what the Bible really teaches.

This translation team plans to translate the Old Testament and then revise the entire New Testament (published in 1983) so that the Bekwarra people will have the whole Bible. They will also use the translated book of Luke to prepare and produce the JESUS film, as well as record the New Testament for audio distribution. These four tools in the Bekwarra language will help build a vibrant New Testament church.
