Amarasi NT | Amarasi

The Amarasi people live on the island of Timor in Indonesia. Christianity came to the region early in this century. While literacy is widespread in the Amarasi area, most reading and writing has been limited to the national language of Indonesian.
Today over 99% of the Amarasi people call themselves Christian, and 75,000 of them claim membership in the major Protestant denomination. But in order to grow in their faith, these believers need Scripture they can understand. The translators, who were born in the Amarasi area, keenly understand the need for the Bible in their language.

This project will provide the New Testament and Genesis for Amarasi speaking people in their heart language. Translators are using the related language of Kupang Malay as a source text, making adaptations to ensure clear understanding. Transitional literacy activities are enabling the people who can already read the national language to use these translated materials effectively.
