Noon Speakers of Senegal
Africa: Noon NT | NoonNoon speakers who work as farmers and adhere to Catholic beliefs. The Noon (pronounced like ‘known’) people place great value on the Scriptures, but the Catholic Church has traditionally used only the French and Wolof languages in its services here. As a result, Christians remain very limited in their knowledge of the Bible. The Catholic priests, especially those with a Noon background, have been encouraging translation efforts. Francois Ndione, one of two known evangelical Christians among the Noon people, serves as the primary translator for this project.
- The Noon team rejoices that they got the last “jots and tittles” to the typesetter. Ask the Lord to watch over the
published New Testaments. Pray that they will be delivered safely, undamaged and in a timely manner. - This coming June is the month chosen for the ceremonies to dedicate the Noon New Testament. Ask God to inspire the dedication planning committees as they make all the necessary arrangements. May the Holy Spirit bring believers together across denominations. Pray that the dedication event will glorify God in every detail, and will be a memorable, joyful time for all.
- As a translation nears completion, the Enemy of our souls often attacks the health of team members. Project manager François was recently hospitalized with malaria. Scripture use specialist Michel also continues to find health issues distracting. Pray that God will grant the translation team and their families’ good health and safety. Implore Him for an end to civil unrest in the region where the Noon people live.
