The people groups participating in the Pangsu Cluster project come from a variety of cultures and traditions.
Many are farmers that rely heavily on regular rice crops to provide for their family and may sell some of their harvest to buy other goods.
It's very intensive work, requiring men and women to carry heave loads long distances.
Children only attend school if their parents can afford to go without their help in farming and other essential chores.
Many children are tasked with caring for family oxen.
Others use nets to capture fish in the many shallow fields and the local river.
Those who can attend school often find schools to be very lacking in both skilled teachers and adequate school materials.
Believers are investing in children by developing schools that also house orphan children, provide medical help and host Sunday church services in the local language.
One unique challenge in parts of South Asia is a cycle of flooding.
Main river routes sometimes break their banks, flooding out the narrow roads between rice fields and destroying many homes.
In some extreme cases, people spend days on roofs with almost no food or clean water. When the waters recede, rebuilding can be a heavy burden.
Christians in the region help as they're able, even when they're affected. Often communities band together to build new schools and other buildings.
At one recent relief camp, they provided food, shelter, supplies and stories of God's love along with cultural songs and stories.
It's making a difference. Adam (not pictured) shares: "The first Sunday we did the story it was the first time that I saw everyone in our group of 300 engaged, from the youngest children to the older ones who normally struggle to pay attention."
It may take six months to clear out the additional mud that flooding brings and another six months to harvest a new crop of rice. Meanwhile, government aid is all they have.
Pray with us for the people in the Pangsu and Abbi Cluster Projects.
God has given the Pangsu people a beautiful country and they're eager to make the best of it for their families.
But these people and their children need God’s message of hope found in the Bible to experience the lasting peace that no flood can take away. (end of show)
