Interview Excerpts — For King & Country

Luke and Joel of For King & Country
Musical recording artists, For King & Country, is one of two groups that will be promoting OneVerse at this year’s WinterJam concert series.
“Music has the peculiar ability to connect with the soul, and we want to use it to encourage…. Life is a journey, full of highs and lows, triumphs and sorrow — these are the subjects we write about: real human experiences. Whether that means sharing about honest struggles, asking unanswered questions, or talking about relationships, our hope is this music will inspire you and each song will relate to you, right where you are.”
Seed Company: What inspired you to change your name from Joel & Luke to For King & Country?
For King & Country: We wanted a band name that carried more meaning. We were in the studio recording our debut record that Joel had the idea of “All the King’s Men,” like the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. Our producer overheard our conversation and swung around in his chair and said, “What about For King & Country?” And we all felt a sense of providence in that moment.
“For King and Country” was the battle cry of English soldiers willing to lay down their lives for their king and their country. And now it has become our mission, to lay down our lives for our King and our country.
Seed Company: What do you want our readers to know about you, your music, your heart for ministry?
FK&C: The power of music can impact our mood, emotions, our day. But when you merge the strength of music with the heart, hope and passion of the Gospel … it has the ultimate power not only to change someone’s day, but to impact them for eternity. This is why we write music and sing songs — we hope that people will be moved, encouraged and stirred to live a life for Someone greater than themselves.
Seed Company: You spent a day learning about Bible translation with us here at OneVerse. What is your biggest take-a-way?
FK&C: It’s twofold: One, to realize the dramatic need there is for the Bible to be translated into every known language. And two, we got to see the incredible impact, via the “JESUS” film, that the Bible has when it is translated into people’s native tongue! Seeing children and adults alike smile and rejoice when Jesus did miracles … and then weep when He was murdered on a cross — wow, now that was moving!
Seed Company: You will be talking about Ending Bible Poverty on the Winter Jam Tour. What do you want folks to know? What do you want folks to do?
FK&C: My sense is that the real facts about Bible poverty in our world are largely unknown, particularly by our generation. First, I want to help uncover the truth about how many souls die each and every day without hearing even a word of the Bible in their native language. Second, we want to implore young people, including ourselves, to take the severe knowledge that we now have, and radically do something about it.
