Our Board

Todd Peterson, Chairman

With a background of professional football and a strong commitment to Christian philanthropy, Todd brings a passion for The Seed Company’s mission to the board. Drafted into the NFL in 1993, he was the placekicker for Seattle, Kansas City, Pittsburgh and San Francisco. In 2005, he played his last and career-best season in his hometown for the Atlanta Falcons. He is the only player in NFL history to have kicked overtime game-winning field goals for more than 4 teams and at retirement was one of only 34 players in NFL history to have scored over 1000 points. Todd serves on several other boards. He is the current board chairman for The Seed Company. Todd and his wife, Susan, live in Johns Creek, Georgia. They have two children.

Michael Stoltzfus, Vice Chairman

As president and chief executive officer of Dynamic Aviation, Mike provides strategic direction for the company. His background in internal project management and in worldwide business development is a valuable asset to the board. In addition to serving with The Seed Company, Mike has also been an active part of the Bridgewater Retirement Community Foundation Board, Young Life Committee Harrisonburg/Rockingham County and Air Serv International. Mike and his wife, Melissa, live in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They have one child.

Jeffrey Brown, Corporate Secretary

Jeff is a corporate private practice attorney. He recently worked as executive vice president and general counsel of Aptiv Digital, Inc. and also as executive director of business development for Cox Communications/TCA Cable TV. He acted as general counsel of TCA prior to their purchase by Cox. His legal background in the business world is a tremendous asset to The Seed Company. Jeff serves on several other boards, including those of Messiah’s Ranch Christian Camp and Brazos Christian School. Jeff and his wife, Ginny, live in Bryan, Texas. They have two children.

Rick Alvord

Rick is the president and chief executive officer of Powerstride Batteries Co. He is a certified public accountant, and has served as vice chairman of the elder board for the Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, California, and as the chairman for their Next Step Building Project. Rick is also on the audit committee for Mount Hermon Christian Camps. The Seed Company deeply appreciates Rick’s expertise in finance, and depends on his input as part of the organization’s investment-oriented business model. Rick and his wife, Laura, live in Yorba Linda, California. They have two children.

Freddy Boswell

The executive director of SIL International, the world’s leading international linguistics field organization, Freddy provides a direct link between The Seed Company and a diverse group of field consultants and advisers on Seed Company projects. As a linguist, Freddy was translation advisor for the Cheke Holo language in the Solomon Islands. Freddy has also served on the boards of JAARS, the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics and the Wycliffe Foundation. Freddy and his wife, Bekah, live in Dallas, Texas. They have three children.

Bob Creson

Bob is president of Wycliffe Bible Translators, USA, the largest interdenominational mission sending agency in the world. He brings wide missions experience to The Seed Company’s Board. Because he served as director of SIL Cameroon and SIL Chad, Bob understands the context in which our translation projects take place. He also serves on the board for Wycliffe Bible Translators International and Crisis Consulting International. Bob and his wife, Dallas, live in Orlando, Florida. They have four children.

Mark Matlock

Mark is the founder of Wisdom Works Ministries, which focuses on influencing the next generation of leaders. In addition to the leadership he offers The Seed Company, Mark also serves on the board for International Impact. Mark is a columnist for Christianity Today’s Ignite Your Faith magazine and Journal of Student Ministries. He has authored several books, including What Does God Want From Me? and Don’t Buy The Lie. Throughout the year, Mark speaks to teenagers at conferences across the nation. Mark and his wife, Jade, live in Flower Mound, Texas. They have two children.

Ann McKusick

Ann is currently the president of the Foundation for Christian Stewardship, a Christian Community Foundation affiliated with the National Christian Foundation. She served four years as the vice president of Fuller Theological Seminary. For twelve years, she held various leadership positions with World Vision, working in the public relations and resource development areas. Since that time, she has founded several philanthropic organizations. In 1995, she was awarded the Selma Green Award for Integrity in Fundraising by the Evangelical Development Ministry. As a board member, she provides invaluable advice to The Seed Company’s development team on a regular basis. Ann and her husband, Dick, live in Pasadena, California. They have two children.

Judith L. Sweeney

Judy is the president of First Harvest Foundation. Previously, she served as the president of the Los Angeles Times Orange County Edition. Judy previously, worked as a consultant for McKinsey and Company, and as a Vice President for Bank of America. She also serves as board chairman for Mariners Christian School. She is currently serving on the National board of trustees for Young Life and is a former Chairman of the Board. She also serves as board chairman for Mariners Christian School. Previously In addition, she has served on and chaired the boards of United Way of Orange County, Saint Joseph Ballet, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and on the UCI CEO Roundtable. Her depth of experience continues to be a great strength for The Seed Company board. Judy and her husband, Dennis, live in Newport Beach, California. They have two children.

Bill Williams

After a 33-year career with BellSouth in various leadership positions, including vice president of BellSouth Technology Group, Bill is currently president of Generous Giving. This organization encourages Christians to embrace a lifestyle of biblical generosity. Bill’s experience as board chairman for the Georgia Technology Authority, a governor-appointed position, provides The Seed Company board with a seasoned advisor who can offer key insights. Bill and his wife, Regina, live in Duluth, Georgia. They have three children.

Past Leadership

Bernie May, Founder

Bernie May is the founder of The Seed Company and an advisor to the Wycliffe family of organizations. Bernie started his missions career as a pilot in South America, serving there for sixteen years. His business background and visionary innovation later moved him into leadership roles. He was president of JAARS, a Wycliffe-affiliated technical organization for five years, and president of Wycliffe U.S. for twelve years. In 1982, Bernie launched the Bibleless Peoples Prayer Project, Wycliffe’s intercessory prayer effort. In 1993, Bernie founded The Seed Company as a Wycliffe initiative to connect investors with national-led translation projects. Bernie and his wife, Marian, live in Waxhaw, North Carolina. They have five children.

Peter M. Ochs, Founding Chairman

Peter is chairman of TFC Holdings, LLC, a residential real estate development company founded in 1981 with operations in California, Utah and Texas. He currently serves on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations including Prison Fellowship Ministries. Peter is a past board chair of Wycliffe Bible Translators and the founding chairman of The Seed Company. Peter and his wife Gail are co-founders of First Fruit, Inc., a private charitable foundation which works with Christian agencies throughout the developing world. They currently live in Corona del Mar, California. They have four children.
