Helping to bring God’s Word to modern Aramaic speakers has been a passion for Paul*, the main translator. A local shepherd in the region keeping watch over his flocks of goats and sheep under the only shade tree for miles. The countryside in this region offers a glimpse into traditional Aramaic culture, similar in many ways to the days of Jesus. Church leaders know that the Aramaic Scriptures will strengthen the believers as they seek to live out their faith in sometimes difficult environments. Equipped with God’s Word, Aramaic speakers will be prepared to deal with the modern stresses of life. Aramaic children need to know the Jesus of the Gospels who welcomes them into His presence. As the sun rises over a church in the region, Aramaic speakers are experiencing the light of God’s Word anew. Local church leaders provide valuable insight for the Aramaic translation project. The main translator, Paul, delivers copies of the JESUS film. There has been an overwhelming demand for copies of this film even among non-Christians since it is in their own language. . “Each time we get a few hundred copies, they disappear immediately.” Explains a local church leader. Though blind for many years, this man was moved by the JESUS film, “As I listened to the words of Jesus, my heart began to see. He opened the eyes of my heart. And that makes all the difference in my life.” Technology and tradition blend in the Aramaic translation project. Aramaic believers are a minority in their region but God’s promises will give them new passion and strength. The Scriptures are already making a difference in the day to day life of people like Cornelius*, a cab driver. The next generation of Aramaic speakers will know the truth of God’s Word in a deeper way than many before it.
