Project Profile

Ache NT

Ache 1

The Aché live as hunter-gatherers on the edge of humid forests in southeastern Paraguay. Men use large bows and arrows to hunt wild game such as armadillos, paca and monkeys, while women and children gather honey palm fiber and fruit. About 10 to 40 percent of the Aché population are Christians; however, many hold onto animistic beliefs. Most cannot clearly understand the national languages and find it hard to read and understand the Bible.

Ache 2

A Paraguayan couple with extensive linguistic and theological training has moved into an Aché community to begin learning the language. They plan to train six mother-tongue translators to be co-workers in the project as they begin working on the Gospel of Luke. They will also train 30 people from Aché communities to be literacy teachers. They hope that through the translation of the Scriptures, the Aché people will grow spiritually as they understand the Word of God.
